GRADING GUIDELINES
 
NUMBER OF GRADES:
MINIMUM OF 4 MAJOR ASSESSMENTS/PROJECTS PER NINE WEEKS
MINIMUM OF 5 MINOR QUIZZES/REPORTS PER NINE WEEKS
HOMEWORK/CLASSWORK MINIMUM OF 9 PER NINE WEEKS
 
MAKE-UP WORK: See Power of “I” policy.  Please note:  All required work must be turned by the end of each quarter; work not turned in will earn a grade of “zero”.
 

DROPPING GRADES:
TEACHERS MAY ALLOW EACH STUDENT TO DROP A TOTAL OF ONE GRADE PER NINE WEEKS FROM THE FOLLOWING CATEGORIES: HOMEWORK, CLASSWORK OR MINOR QUIZ GRADES.
 
EXTRA CREDIT:
EXTRA CREDIT MAY BE GIVEN AS A BONUS QUESTION ON A TEST OR QUIZ, AS BONUS POINTS DURING A REVIEW ACTIVITY, AND/OR IF OFFERED TO THE WHOLE CLASS AS AN ENRICHMENT OPPORTUNITY.  EXTRA CREDIT WORK CANNOT REPLACE ASSIGNED WORK NOT COMPLETED BY A STUDENT.
 
GRADES:  All grades must be updated to POWER TEACHER BY THE TEACHER EACH WEEK.  Parents, to access “Parent Portal” and view your student’s grades please complete a Parent Portal Access Request Form.  Once the information provided is verified and processed, you will receive your student’s Access ID(s) and Password(s) including detailed instructions for creating your account.  Please note:  Access ID(s) and Passwords(s) are changed each school year, you must complete the Parent Portal Access Request Form each school year.

PLEASE NOTE:
STUDENT GRADES CAN ONLY BE BASED ON ACADEMIC WORK.  GRADES MUST NOT BE ASSIGNED FOR NON-ACADEMIC TASKS, i.e. RETURNING SIGNED PAPERS, GOOD OR NEGATIVE BEHAVIOR IN CLASS AND/OR COMPLETENG BUSY WORK SUCH AS WORD SEARCH PUZZLES.
 
Parents and/or guardians must be contacted, prior to an interim or quarter reporting period, when their student’s grade is a “D” or “F”.  All contacts must be recorded on the teacher’s Parent Contact Log.
 
CEMS Tardy and Attendance Policy:  Because regular school attendance is critical to student academic success the following policies will be monitored and addressed.
 
TARDY POLICY:  The Tardy Policy will be applied per class per semester.  1st and 2nd offense – teacher warning, 3rd offense – Parent Contact-Documented; 4th offense – office referral, 6th Offense – District Office Referral.
 
ATTENDANCE POLICY:  S.C State law mandates that in order for a student to earn credit for a course he/she can miss no more than 10 days from a year-long class and 5 days from a semester class.  If your child accumulates 3 unexcused absences the Orangeburg Consolidated School District 4 attendance policy will be implemented.  If your child exceeds the maximum number of allowed absences he/she will be required to attend Saturday School in order to earn credit for the class.  Saturday School will be held from 8:00am to 12:00pm at a cost of $20.00 per session, dates to be announced.
